If you use it properly, Google Adwords Pay per Click advertising can be a great way to market your chiropractic business. But many businesses waste a lot of money on their pay per click ads, because they think it is simply a matter of sticking an ad on Google, and watching the traffic pour in. But it doesn’t work that way.

Google is just as concerned about providing relevant search results for their pay per click ads, as they are for organic search. So they reward relevant ads with a higher position in the search results for a lower cost. That is why it pays to understand Google Adwords before you begin your campaign.

And it doesn’t need to be complicated. A little bit of extra work at the beginning of your Google Adwords campaign will definitely pay off.

Here are a few basic things you need to know:

Make sure you include your keyword/phrase in your ad and in the advert title if possible.

Include the keyword on the website page the ad will land on and preferably in the title. This may mean rewriting that page but the time and effort is worth it.

Do use keywords that potential customers are likely to use, as opposed to browsers or researchers. Aim to attract potential customers only, even if that means getting less traffic.

Do test more than one ad, to see what brings in the best results. Also do use different ads for different services and offers you have.

Set a maximum spending limit for each ad. Keep it low initially so that you can measure the success of your results. Don’t be tempted to just leave it, or set the limit too high. If you do, your pay per click budget could disappear in hours.

Do use Google’s own keyword tool to check the popularity of keywords and levels of competition.

Don’t be impatient. Take the time to test and measure your results at the beginning of your campaign, and monitor them on a regular basis.

This may seem like a lot additional work, but it is worth it if you want to market your chiropractic business through Google Adwords Pay per Click. Instead of paying several dollars per click for a low position in the search results, it will enable you to pay a few cents per click for a top 3 position.

While Google Adwords can be a great way to attract new customers to your website, don’t rely on pay per click ads alone. Most of your traffic will still come from organic search, so you still need to focus on improving your websites search optimization too.

If you are not sure of how to use social media to promote your chiropractic website, you should consider a Facebook fan page. For a start, it is free to set up a fan page and it gives you access to a vast number of existing and potential clients. Digital marketing experts, iCrossing predict that the number of Facebook users will hit 1 billion by August 2012.

A Facebook fan page is:

Simple to Set Up

Customizable

A Free Way to Market Your Business

Enables You to Interact With Clients and Answer Questions

A Great Way to Build Brand Loyalty by Offering Exclusive Deals to Your Fans

To make the most of your Facebook fan page, you may want to get a designer to customize it for you so that your brand stands out as much as possible. This is unlikely to cost the earth, and once you have a professional Facebook fan page in place, it is a free way to market your business and connect with your clients.

Once your Facebook fan page is set up, use every opportunity you can to get people to “like” your page. Don’t forget to ask employees and friends to like your page. That way, their friends will also be exposed to your page and will be inclined to “like” it, if they are interested in your chiropractic services. You could also consider offering incentives and discounts to new fans. A small discount or gift is nothing when you consider that your Facebook fan page is free.

Add a Facebook “like” button to your website too. Browsers who may forget to come back to your website will remember to return, if they see your updates on Facebook. Make sure you link your fan page to your Chiropractic website, and if you have a blog, link to your posts from your fan page.

Your Facebook fan page is fully customizable and you have the option to add opinion polls and daily questions. It is worth making good use of these tools, as they are a great way to get valuable feedback from clients and potential clients, plus they encourage your fans to interact with you.

Finally, if you do decide to create a Facebook fan page, make sure you update it regularly. Nothing will make people hit the unlike button faster than a page that is never updated. If you don’t have time to update and manage your Facebook fan page you could outsource the task.

To keep new visitors on your chiropractic website for more than a few seconds, and turn them into patients, there are a few things that you must have on your site.

Biography/About

Many businesses ignore the importance of the biography/about section of their site and throw something brief together, or make it so boring that nobody wants to read it. And this is a huge mistake. People like to buy from real people, not faceless corporations. So this section of your website is your chance to connect with your readers, and give them a reason to want to become your customer.

The best biography/about sections tell an interesting story. And if you are struggling to come up with something compelling yourself, it is worth appointing a good copywriter to do it for you. You can also find some great examples online, to help you generate ideas.

Pictures

Pictures make a story come to life. So include plenty of them on your website. In addition to images of you and your staff, include images of your business premises. In fact, wherever there is writing on your site, try to include a good quality, related image. Try to use real photos, rather thank stock photos. You want to be authentic.

Videos

The popularity of YouTube shows that people love to watch videos. A video of your business premises could work well. Or consider making short videos of yourself giving advice on useful relevant topics. You could also include a video introducing yourself, explaining your services and what a new client can expect on their first visit to your premises. This makes your site personal and introduces you to potential patients.

You’ll also want a complete library of chiropractic videos on your site. These are a great way to educate patients about the benefits of chiropractic.

Useful Content

You should add useful and relevant content to your website on a regular basis, both for search engine optimization purposes and to keep visitors coming back to your chiropractic website. A blog is a great way to add content quickly and easily. As part of our chiropractic website service, we include a free WordPress installation and support.

Map

If you want to attract customers to use your service, add a map and clear directions to show them how to get to your clinic. Remember to add directions for all modes of transport, including car, bus and train. And remember to let your readers know whether you have private car parking and the nearest places to park. It is also useful to include a picture of your premises, and the street to make it easier for visitors to find you.

Chiropractic blogging is different from many other types of writing. You may find it difficult at first, and so do most people. But a great business blog will eventually bring patients to your website, and enable you to build relationships with existing patients.

Don’t Give Up Before You Even Get Started

When you have written your first few blog posts, it can feel like you are talking to the wall. And maybe you are, or maybe people are reading but not commenting on your posts. Only a tiny percentage of readers actually comment on blog posts, so don’t get disheartened and give up too quickly.

Write Down Ideas to Use Later

If you are not used to writing, you may find it difficult to come up with ideas to write about. This is perfectly normal, and after a while ideas will come to you when you’re not trying to find them. Write them down, and save them in drafts on your blog with a few notes, so that you can use them later. If you really struggle to come up with ideas, outsource your blog posts to a writer.

Don’t Try To Do Too Much

Build your chiropractic blog up slowly. It may seem like a good idea to post once or twice on a daily basis, but that is quite an ambitious task, especially if you are writing the posts yourself. Updating your chiropractic blog once or twice a week is more than enough.

If You Don’t Have the Time – Outsource

The actual writing of your blog, and any associated marketing activities can soon take up a large amount of your time. So it makes a lot of sense to outsource the bulk of the work sooner, rather than later. If you’re not used to writing regularly, an experienced blog writer will be able to write posts far faster than you can, so it may be more cost effective than you think.

Read Regularly in Your Niche to Get Ideas for Posts

Get into the habit of reading regularly in the chiropractic field and also on holistic health in general. Not only will it keep you up to date on new ideas and research that will be useful to your business, it will also help you to generate ideas for your blog posts.

Let Your Readers Generate Your Content

People are often happy to contribute once you ask them. So create some short snappy blog posts asking readers relevant questions. They won’t take you long to write and they could spark an interesting discussion in the comments section. Also use reader questions in your blog comments section and on social media pages to generate ideas for future blog posts.

As part of our ChiroHosting service, we help you create a great chiropractic blog. All of our client blogs are built on WordPress, the state-of-the-art blogging platform.

It makes a lot of sense to market your chiropractic services to large companies. They have a vested interest in the health and wellbeing of their employees, and they are more inclined to use your services on a regular basis.

Once you have made a list of jobs, or industries where injuries are more likely to occur, Google local businesses in the area. Check out their webpage for details of their HR department, or Health and Safety department. If they do not state the name of the person who is in charge of HR or Health and Safety, email or call the company to ask for those details and briefly explain why you need to contact them. It is vital to get a name so that you can personalize your letter or email.

Next, email or write to the contact at each company explaining your services and what you can do for them:

• Reduce sickness time of injured employees.
• Help prevent expensive law suits, and potentially huge medical payments.
• Create a happier pain free work force.
• Reduce staff turnover.

You should always follow up with a second, and maybe even a third letter or email a few days later, briefly reminding them of what you have to offer. Many companies do not take notice of the first letter they receive from a business that they have never heard of.

If you are comfortable using the telephone, in your second or third letter you could tell them you will call them over the next few days to explain what you can do for them. If you are able to do this, it is extremely useful because the conversation will enable you to get an idea of how often employees take time off due to injuries.

Unless someone asks to be removed from your list, keep mailing on a regular basis. To help you get your foot in the door of a large organization, you could offer things like free training sessions on injury prevention for staff. Or you could offer free leaflets/guides on injury prevention at work.

All this may sound like a lot of effort, but repeat contact is often necessary, as your branding needs to be seen several times before potential clients take notice. On all your mailings or emails, put details of your website and any social networking accounts you have.

Persistence is really important. Once a large business decides to try out your chiropractic services, it could mean years of repeat business for you.

Getting links to your chiropractic site is important. The more people that link to you, the more authority your site has according to the major search engines. Google assumes that if people are linking to you, you must have content that people like.

Because of the value of inbound links, people get tempted to buy links. For years, this used to work, but Google has put the kibosh on this with their recent updates.

Search Engine Watch recently published a good article on this.

Today, one of our clients called, upset that their site had dropped off the front page of Google. After a little digging, we found a bunch of spammy blog posts from August of last year. When we asked the doctor about this, he told us an “SEO expert” had helped him with his site for “just” $400.

Well, that $400 is going to cost a lot more, because now all of those bad links need to be removed and Google needs to be convinced that the site isn’t spam. Not much of a bargain, if you ask me.

Don’t make this mistake! Focus on creating original content that’s relevant to your patients and find some local businesses or friends who will give you a link. But don’t go out and pay an “SEO expert.”

Email newsletters are an important tool in marketing your chiropractic practice to patients, but one idea that’s often overlooked is using print newsletters to market your website to attorneys.

Since 1999, we’ve been publishing the Injury Briefing. It’s a monthly newsletter that reviews the current science of auto injuries. We write, print, and mail (via first class) these newsletters to attorneys that you select – with your clinic information on the newsletter.

Print newsletters are a lot of work, if you’ve ever tried to produce one regularly. The Injury Briefing is great, because all you have to do is provide the list of attorneys and we take care of the rest automatically!

Best of all is the price – just $1.85 per recipient per month. For example, if we send the newsletter to 10 recipients on your behalf, you pay just $18.50 a month. Plus, there’s no contract or obligation, so you can try it out and see if it works for you with no risk.

You can learn more about this popular personal injury newsletter here.

Video is a very powerful way to get the message about chiropractic out to people. As part of our ChiroHosting service, we provide a complete library of chiropractic videos that are included with your site.

But that’s not enough. It’s also important to have your own videos on your site that show off your staff, your office, or (especially) show you talking about how you can help people improve their health.

Once you have your video ready, though, how do you get it on your site? YouTube is one option, but it’s not a very good one. YouTube is definitely popular, but as we all know, YouTube is very distracting. It’s easy to finish watching a video and then get lured into watching something else, and before you know it, you’ve completely forgotten what you were originally watching.

The best way to host your personal clinic videos is with a free Wistia account. We use Wistia for all of our video hosting and they have some incredible features. For instance, you can see exactly what parts of your videos were popular and which parts people skipped over. In addition, you can see geographic information about who is watching your videos, and you can even use SEO techniques on your video content to make it show up in Google.

The free Wistia account allows you to have three free videos, which is usually plenty for most chiropractic offices.

If you have any questions about how to use video to get new chiropractic patients, give us a call at (800) 295-3346 and we’d be happy to talk about how to optimize your site.

It’s a lot of working keeping up with Google and their constant changes to search and social media. The latest change, though, is pretty exciting. Google is now pushing local search through Google+, which gives chiropractors a much more sophisticated way to show off your practice to potential patients.

Here’s an example of a Google+ listing for a chiropractic clinic.

As you can see, Google+ gives you options for adding a ton of photos, videos, and more information that can help patients make a decision.

Google is pushing hard with Google+, and integrating Google+ with local search is a smart move. But you need to make sure that you have your Google+ listing optimized to get the most benefit.

As a ChiroHosting client, we help you set up your Google+ listing for no extra charge! So give us a call at (800) 295-3346 and we’ll show you how to get the most out of it.
