Every day, millions of people log on to Twitter and other social media sites to hear the latest from family, friends, and business they follow. That’s why more chiropractors are taking advantage of this excellent opportunity to reach out to the public.

Chiropractors can use Twitter to update patients about current news, services, and healthcare tips. Within seconds, patients can find out what’s important in your chiropractic practice. With these regular updates, you can ensure that you stay relevant to the lives of your patients. They will come to view you as a reliable, accessible source of healthcare information.

We encourage you to update your Twitter account on a weekly if not daily basis. This consistent interaction with patients will help develop loyalty in your chiropractic practice.

If you still think “twitter” is the sound a bird makes, put on your seat belt. Twitter is one of the fastest growing social networks. According to Compete, a firm that tracks Internet usage, Twitter has grown 1,928 percent from June 2008 to June 2009. The site has 21 million unique visitors each month.

If you know nothing about social media and have no clue as to how it works, here’s a quick explanation: Twitter is a micro-blogging site that allows you to post updates that are 140 characters or less. That may sound like too few characters for an effective message but look at these examples:

One-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year. Let me help you ease your pain. (110 characters)

Come see me for a free consultation. (39 characters with plenty of room to add your phone number)

These are very simple statements but you get the idea. You can be as creative as you want. Talk about the latest research on chiropractic care. Promote specials. Share a quotation that is close to your heart. The benefit of ‘tweeting’ is that you establish relationships and promote your business at the same time.

How do you get started? Simply create a profile at www.twitter.com. Add all of the information about yourself and don’t forget to post a picture. To find followers, become a follower yourself. Twitter has a great search feature that allows you to search for users in your area. Once you have identified some people you would like to follow, add them. More than likely, they will follow you back and you will begin to build an audience.

After you set up an account, you’ll want to link to your Twitter feed on your website, and that’s easy for us to set up for you if you use our chiropractic website service.
