Thanks for the info Mike. I will definitely follow up on this.
That’s funny… I was just talking with my chiropractor about this the other day. I recently started weight training and it has been a huge help. I have finally gotten it on a good schedule and it has really helped.
Thanks for pointing out that study too! Great post and I hope more people team up with a trainer and the Chiropractor … it really works.
Despite this study I find treating people with fibromyalgia is much more difficult than this. I have an active care practice and many of these patients do wonderful with the combination of chiropractic manipulation and exercise, however there are others who do not respond well to this. Fibromyaliga is a complex, multi-factorial condition and while manipulation and exercise is a great start, it is essential to evaluate other things as well (diet, environment, …)
After rereading my post, I do not mean the last post to discourage people with fibromyalgia to avoid exercise, I just want to make sure this doesn’t appear to be a cure-all solution.
Dr. Brown,
You’re absolutely right – fibromyalgia is a complex issue and requires a multidisciplinary approach for treatment. This study simply examined the role of exercise and manipulation.

I agree with the complexity. Our providers treat a lot of patients with fibromyalgia. Anecdotally the chiropractic and resistance training works great like it did in the study. The numbers are a bit low, only 21 pts participated in the study and 15 actually finished it.
